Terms of service
These terms apply when you use Distinction (hdistinction.live). By creating an account you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
Who can use Distinction
- You must be a current or former university student. If you're under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
- Keep your login details private. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
- Give accurate information, especially your university, courses and transcript.
Academic integrity
Distinction is for learning: explaining concepts, pointing out mistakes and sharing how you studied. It is not a place to get assessable work done for you.
- Students must not ask tutors to complete, write or substantially do any part of an assessment, exam or assignment that will be submitted for marks.
- Tutors must not provide answers intended to be submitted as a student's own work, share past assignments, or help anyone cheat in an exam.
- Follow your university's academic integrity rules. Australian law prohibits providing or advertising academic cheating services.
We can remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules, and we may cooperate with universities where required by law.
Tutors
- You may only tutor courses you actually completed with the grade shown on your transcript. Uploading a false or altered transcript will get your account removed.
- Answers must be your own words. Don't copy other people's work, course materials you're not allowed to share, or AI output presented as your own expertise.
- Tutor earnings are tracked in the app. Payouts aren't available yet, and we'll tell you before they start and on what terms.
Credits
- Asking a question uses credits. Unanswered spots are refunded to your credits when the question closes, and so is the urgent fee for late urgent answers.
- Credits have no cash value and can't be transferred or withdrawn.
- While we're in testing, top-ups are free. We may reset or adjust test credits before paid credits launch.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give Distinction permission to store it, show it to the people it's meant for, and translate it so the site works. Don't post anything you don't have the right to share, or anything unlawful, abusive or harassing.
No guarantee on answers
Answers come from other students and may be wrong or incomplete. Use your own judgement, and check anything important against your course materials or teaching staff.
Changes and ending your account
We may update these terms and will note the date above when we do. You can stop using Distinction at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
Liability
Distinction is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses from using the site or relying on answers. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.
